     THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK KNIVES
This section provides detailed information about the knife props used in THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. The information here is the result of a lot of hard work by a frequent site contributor named Peter.... Thanks go out to him for these efforts.

Please note that many knife suppliers go out of business or change their websites around, so there's always a chance that some of the links below will go dead. I'll try to stay on top of it.

The Shivs of THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK
The Crematoria Swingblades
Most people will be interested in the curved "swingblades" Riddick uses in the Crematoria fight (that are also seen on the poster, the DVD cover, and in the DVD menus). The prop department for the movie bought a bunch from Axtion Bladez Concepts who now appear to be gone. Note that the handles are different since the movie guys customized the grips. Grab them from Amazon.com below.

The Crematoria Slam Guard Knife
The next knife Peter found was the blade the Slam guard pulls on Riddick right before getting killed by a teacup. It's a Cold Steel Recon Tanto. Snag one below off of Amazon, or for fun just get the rubber training version!

The Necromonger Officer Knives
Peter also discovered the knife that Riddick had a pair of and used to kill the Necromongers standing outside the Quasi Grotto before using the Irgun knife and launching himself at the Lord Marshall. It appears that these were probably used as Necromonger officer knives with the only modification done by the prop department being an enlarged hole closest to the cross guard, more of a true circle rather than an oval. They might have also enlarged the second hole up, as well. The real knife is the Black Legion Blade by Kit Rae. His website has an informational page about it here, and you can buy one from Amazon.com. .

The Crematoria bootknife
The boot knife Riddick pulls out right before his big jump that starts the Crematoria fight is a United Cutlery UC1231 "Poseidon's Blade", originally designed by Kit Rae and modified by the props department as described below by Peter:
There are two additions to the knife. It's not entirely stock. First, there's a section on the front of the handle that's been filled in with a gray resin filler. The color doesn't match the original handle exactly. Second, a ring was added to the end of the handle.
Here's a list of places where you can get the knife and a display board: The Dame Vaako Battleaxe
Direct from Peter comes more, this time about the Dame Vaako Sword. It is a Master Cutlery "Alien Battle Sword" with custom Necromonger handgrips applied by the prop department. The "Alien Battle Sword" is available from Smoky Mountain Knifeworks.

For fans who want to build their own Dame Vaako Sword, Peter suggests using the higher quality United Cutlery "Volkoth Battle Sword" version for a base. It has the same exact profile as the Master Cutlery product, but is better made and has an exotic acid etch across the blade surfaces which looks very much like the aged etch given to the screen-used prop.

The As-Yet Unknowns
There are still a fair few knives from the movie where Peter has not been able to identify the production base item they originated from. These knives have been regularly showing up at the very-TCOR friendly Propstore of London for years, as they seem to be the main place to get all RIDDICK props. If you recognize any of these, don't hesitate to shoot me an email.

Riddick's UV System Planet 6 Urzo Jawbone Knife
The distinctive handle on this knife (one of a pair seen in the film) has its origins with the Native Americans who made handles for ceremonial daggers out of bear jaws. The type of animal jaw used to make the handle on the screen-used prop is unknown. The film's backstory implies the jawbone was harvested from an "Urzo", a terrible snow-creature native to the ice-planet UV-6, similar to the "Wampa", a terrible snow creature native to the ice-planet Hoth in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The name "Urzo" is derived from the Latin word from "Ursus", or "bear". This is an additional connection to the Native American jawbone handle. The scenes where Riddick fights and kills an Urzo were never included in either version of the film. An "Urzo" is seen in the background on the UV-6 set during Vin Diesel's guided video tour on the DVD bonus material. The original knife or sword blade used in making these knives is unknown.

Helion Guard Dagger
Riddick isn't the only one carrying a knife in this movie! A Helion Guard Captain threatens Imam with this type of knife immediately after Riddick wipes out his entire squad. The knife itself is entirely stock, with no additional modifications added by the prop department. It is undoubtedly a production knife and comes with the matching sheath shown. It is most likely made in either China, Taiwan, or Pakistan. Though similar, the Helion Guard's dagger is not the United Cutlery Knight's Dagger (UC1144) designed by Kit Rae. This particular photo is of a knife sold on eBay as part of a collection of similar "import knives". The manufacturer and importer are unknown.

Crematoria Necromonger Forehead Knife
This knife makes three notable appearances in the film. First and most spectacularly, Riddick disarms a Necromonger footsoldier and then buries the knife into another soldier's forehead with a well-aimed throw. Second, it is seen very briefly as one of two knives Riddick has on his belt as he boards the Bascilica in disguise. Third, Commander Toal (Roger R. Cross) is seen holding one of these knives as his troops surround Riddick during the final confrontation with the Lord Marshall. Beyond its appearance in the film, very little is known about this knife. The handle appears to have been a custom sculpt, or a partial sculpt by the prop department. It is likely at least one prop was made with a sharpened steel blade.

Imam's House/Head Shaver
"The blade comes off when the bounty comes off." Riddick used this knife to make a point with Aereon (Judi Dench) and as a personal grooming appliance while shaving his head in Imam's house. Like the Helion Guard Dagger, the "Head Shaver" seems to be an unmodified, imported production knife, probably of Asian manufacture. The manufacturer and importer are unknown.
