PITCH BLACK AND CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK PEOPLE
What follows is my attempt to catalogue and describe the various elements that comprise the universe of The Chronicles of Riddick. This is sometimes not an easy task, as there is basically no consistency between the different franchise media. I have tried to note where this occurs and track the differences. Feel free to enjoy yourself, despite Roger Ebert's snide dismissal of this endeavor...

Abbott
A Butcher Bay guard that controls prison society in his area by picking and backing a main thug. Abbott is killed by Riddick.
Source: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY

Abu 'Imam' al-Walid
A Chrislam teacher who first enters the Chronicles leading three children to New Mecca as part of a religious pilgrimage. Imam loses his three charges to a planet inhabited by voracious predatory beasts after their transport crash-lands. The Imam is saved by Riddick from both this planet and a ship owned by an insane collector.

After this, Riddick leaves Imam on New Mecca where he becomes a part of the political structure, marries Lejjun, and has a daughter (Ziza).

When the system is threatened by Necromonger invasion, Imam hears of a prophesy that makes him think Riddick might be able to save his home. Working with an envoy from the Elemental Council, he finds Riddick and pleads his case. Imam is killed during the ensuing invasion by the Necromonger warrior Irgun the Strange.

Aereon
Aereon is an Air Elemental and a member of the Elemental Council, sent as an envoy to New Mecca. When she learns from the Imam about Riddick's background matching a prophesy dealing with the end of the Necromongers, she puts a Merc bounty on his head to bring him in. She informs Riddidick about his Furian background and then sits back as the prophesy unfolds.

Various hints point to Aereon having a much deeper involvement in these events. When she is captured by the Necromongers, Lord Marshall's comment indicates they have a history together. It seems likely that she was the one who told him the prophesy that made him try to destroy all Furian newborn males. Other elements hint that she is part of an Elemental plot to come to power by making the Furians and Necromongers annihilate each other.

Ali (Pilgrim #3)
The youngest of Imam's three students on the pilgrimage to New Mecca. Killed in PITCH BLACK by hatchlings in the coring room during the second trip to the settlement. The nephew of a powerful Saudi Arabian water-desalinization baron and son of Shiek Abdullah, Ali is thought to be from Tangiers-3, a predominantly Muslim world. Brother of Hasan and Suleiman.

Alliance Shipping
Chartered the Hunter-Gratzner. Responsible for sending the investigators to planet two of the M-344/G system to research the ship's crash.
Source: PITCH BLACK (website)

Antonia Chillingsworth
An enigmatic woman who considers the murderous human impulse to be art. Chillingsworth travels the universe in a huge ship, the Kubla Khan, that is loaded down with Mercs in cryosleep ready to be awakened to capture her prizes. These beings are then put on display in her gallery on the ship. Chillingsworth is killed by Kyra.

Ben Prevenost
A Crematoria convict convicted of dealing in illegal weapon.

Carolyn Fry
Pilot Second Class (Docking Pilot) aboard the Hunter-Gratzner. Last person to be killed in Pitch Black by predators prior to the remaining survivors escaping in the skiff. Had accrued enough hours to qualify for Pilot first class, but failed to take the exam. Was considering quitting her job prior to the crash due to a dislike for deep space and cryo-sleep.

Centurion
The convict in Butcher BAY's triple-max section that sets up the prison-sanctioned fights.
Source: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY

Chris Cetin
A Crematoria convict convicted of murder. This Kozarian restaurant owner, unwilling to bend to local mob pressure, killed and hand-rolled a well known enforcer into ravioli and then proceeded to feed it to two other enforcers.
Source: The Hunt for Riddick webgame

Chrislams
A religious sect that unifies Christianity and Islam. Utilizes the iconography of Christianity and the physical look of Muslims. Primary language is Arabic in nature. Perform a pilgrimage (called a 'hajj') once in their lifetime to New Mecca. Chrislams do not drink alcohol.
Source: PITCH BLACK (script)

Cutter
Inmate surgeon who did the shine job on Riddick's eyes. Was a bovine (cow) veterinarian prior to being incarcerated in Slam City.
Source: PITCH BLACK (web comic), INTO PITCH BLACK (movie & website)
Comments: The PITCH BLACK comic and INTO PITCH BLACK material are very clear... Cutter did the shine job. Obviously this is totally changed in ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY, and only sort of explained away by Shirah in the game's opening cinematic. You should basically ignore this character to buy into the Chronicles explanation.

Dahlven
One of the Mercs in Toombs' second crew that gets killed on the freight sled by Riddick during the descent into the slam on Crematoria.
Source: THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK (movie & novelization)
Comments: The character is not named in the movie.

Dan Fraga
A Crematoria convict convicted of armed robbery.
Source: The Hunt for Riddick webgame

Dan Panosian
A Crematoria convict convicted of hijacking.
Source: The Hunt for Riddick webgame

Douglass D. Owens
Navigator on the Hunter-Gratzner. Killed during crash.
Source: PITCH BLACK (website), INTO PITCH BLACK (movie & website)
Comments: Referred to as 'Greg' Owens in the INTO PITCH BLACK website.

Gavin D. Farrell
A Crematoria convict convicted of cryptoterrorism. No one could decipher his whereabouts or even who he was. In the infosecurity ranks he was cryptoterrorist #1. Traces of his crimes are spread throughout every known infosecurity network in the galaxy. His trademark is a skull icon. These skulls seem to have been left intentionally behind. He was apprehended in the Helion Prime planetary network where a "weak link" was placed as bait. His signal was traced to a ship just beyond the Helion Nebula. He gave authorities no resistance.
Source: The Hunt for Riddick webgame

The Guv
The "leader" of inmate society in the Crematoria slam who participates in Riddick's escape and dies in the battle on the surface with Vaako's troops. The Gov's real name is Ceryll Cantaglia. Ran the hard end of the Benz-Kardak coda on Sigma Minor successfully for an unprecedented 17 cycles. Although arrested for 23 separate infractions, from extortion to murder, he continued to evade conviction. He was finally brought in for vehicular manslaughter.

Hasan (Pilgrim #2)

Source: PITCH BLACK (movie, novelization, & website)

Hoxie
The warden of the Butcher Bay Correctional Facility, set up by Riddick to be killed by his own guards.
Source: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY

Jack B. Badd
The alias used by the young runaway girl traveling on the Hunter-Gratzner, who is saved by Riddick from the creatures on the planet the ship crashes into.
Source: PITCH BLACK (movie, novelization, script, & website), DARK FURY, THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK (movie & novelization)
Comments: The PITCH BLACK script referred to her as Audrey because in that version of the story she wasn't masquerading as a boy. Heh, as completely dumb as it is, THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK establishes that Jack was actually her real name, which she changes to Kyra.

Jagger Valance
A Butcher Bay convict with a lot of clout that helps Riddick by telling him how to get a bomb. This character is voiced by well-known actor Ron Perlman.
Source: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY

Jeff Lavezoli
A Crematoria convict convicted of document forgery.
Source: The Hunt for Riddick webgame

John 'Zeke' Ezekiel
Passenger on the Hunter-Gratzner. First one to be killed in PITCH BLACK by predators. Born in the Australian outback on earth. No formal education. Grew up mining opals in Coober Pedy, Australia, Earth. Moved on to take his 'dream time' among the stars, working as a prospector who searched out under-populated worlds with free land and available mineral rights. Said to have exceptional survivalist skills.

Joseph Dean
A Crematoria convict convicted of aggravated assault. Assaulted a dozen people at a sporting event with the promotional club given away that night.

Her subsequent killing spree landed her Crematoria, where she met up with Riddick and escaped. Kyra becomes a purified Necromonger convert and is eventually killed by the Lord Marshall.

Source: PITCH BLACK (movie, novelization, & website)

Peter Chiang
A Crematoria convict convicted of narcotics. Wanted in multiple systems for the distribution of illegal and exotic substances.
Source: The Hunt for Riddick webgame
Comment: I'm pretty sure most ot the convict names in the web game are people that worked on the movie or maybe on the web stuff. The Chiang entry is detinitely a joke since he was the FX supervisor on PITCH BLACK and TCOR. It even says,"Also known for intimidating the sector with horrible Santa Claus statues!"

Pope Joe
Inmate surgeon in the Butcher Bay Correctional Facility who fixes Riddick's arm after he sustains an injury in the Pit.
Source: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHER BAY

Richard B. Riddick
Riddick was discovered as an infant in a liquor-store trash bin with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. It is unknown how he survived the Necromonger purge of his birth planet, Furya.

Once grown he became a Company ranger assigned as a sweeper in his rookie days to the Sigma Galaxy. Sweepers drew out the local wildlife, spitfires (huge, slimy, lizard-like creatures with motion sensors for eyes). Then he was promoted to the Strikeforce Academy on Sigma 3's moon for training to act as security on Sigma 3. It was on Sigma 3 that he blew the whistle on the company, who branded him a criminal and had him sent to his first slam. Before his third year was up he overpowered a guard, took his uniform and got away. He shot 2 guards and a pilot escaping. The Company put a million-credit contract on his head and he became a wanted man pursued by every bounty hunter, bushwhacker and Merc in the space lanes. Everytime he killed one of them, their deaths were added to his list of serial killings. Finally Johns came along and blasted two kids to get to him, and captured him the first time.

Riddick has served time in Hubble Bay Penal Facility, Ribald S Correctional Institute, Tangiers Penal Colony, the Ursa Luna max-sec prison (a.k.a. "Slam City"), and Butcher Bay Correctional Facility. He is a violent sociopath and murderer, according to one prison psychological evaluation.

Shirah
A female Furyan who contacts Riddick through visions. It is Shirah that gives Riddick his eyeshine while he's sedated during Pope Joe's repair of his arm. She also causes his Furyan awakening on Crematoria.

Suleiman (Pilgrim #1)
Killed in PITCH BLACK by predators in the final flight through the canyon to the skiff. The nephew of a powerful Saudi Arabian water-desalinization baron. Son of Shiek Abdullah. Was on a pilgrimage to New Mecca. Thought to be from Tangiers-3, a predominantly Muslim world. Brother of Hasan and Ali.

Toombs
The Merc thorn in Riddick's side in TCOR, Toombs just keeps coming back for more. Good at his job and good at running his mouth.

Toombs originally got on Riddick's scent in DARK FURY when he was brought out of cryo to join the rest of the Mercs hunting for the escapees. After they got away from the Kubla Khan, Toombs put together a crew and started the chase. Eventually he got his prey delivered to Crematoria, but ended up locked in a cage when Riddick escaped.

William J. Johns
Killed in PITCH BLACK by predators after fight with Riddick during trek to bring final four power cells to skiff. Nicknamed 'William The Conqueror'. During the Wailing Wars, Johns was in the Marine Military Police and tracked down AWOL soldiers. Clean discharge.

Marine psych evaluation shows obsessive-compulsive personality with addictive tendencies, which probably has something to do with his morphine addiction. Some sources also point to his dependence on morphine being because of a chunk of knife that Riddick left embedded close to Johns' spine.

Johns worked as a 'marshall' tracking down high-risk convicts that have escaped from prison. His track record was 17 out of 17 convicts caught and returned.
